Expert advice from the TradeFlix team on getting your flat pack furniture built right.
Flat pack furniture assembly can be straightforward if you approach it correctly. Here are our top five tips from years of professional assembly experience across Glasgow and Renfrewshire.
It sounds obvious, but the number one mistake people make is diving straight in without reading the full instructions. Take 5 minutes to read through everything before you start. Identify all the parts, check nothing is missing, and understand the sequence of steps.
Lay out all the parts, hardware, and fixings before you begin. Group screws, dowels, and cam locks by type. This saves enormous time during assembly and prevents the frustration of searching for the right screw mid-build.
Most flat pack furniture comes with basic tools, but they are often poor quality. A good Phillips screwdriver, a rubber mallet, and a cordless drill with the right bits will make the job much easier and produce better results.
Leave screws and bolts slightly loose until the entire piece is assembled. This gives you room to adjust alignment before everything is locked in place. Tighten everything fully only at the very end.
Assemble on a clean floor with good lighting. Protect your floor with a blanket or cardboard from the packaging. Having enough space to lay panels flat makes a huge difference to the quality of the build.
